Just go for a beer and the view. Don't expect your server to know anything about the beers either, so know what you want before you order. Disastrous food, (burned fish and chips and hockey puck overdone burger for example) but a fine spot for a cold beer on the water.

Wow, where do I begin...the positives. The view is great and our waitress was a sweetheart. It ends there. We had been warned not to eat there so we went to just drink. BIG MISTAKE!! We had a group of four. My friend and I ordered top shelf margaritas-they were so bad they were un drinkable. We sent them back and they sent out two more for us to try-horrible! So, we asked for vodka and cranberry, thinking "how can they mess this up?" They did. It tasted like cherry cough syrup and not a drop of vodka to be found when we had told them to make it strong. My husband got a piña colada that had zero alcohol in it and tasted like a watery milkshake. Our fourth member got a frozen Rita that he actually drank. So, a word to the wise, don't eat or drink there-just look at the view.

Best thing about dinner at the Port St. Joe marina is the view.....it's spectacular!! You can enjoy a beverage and dinner overlooking the marina and the gulf. Can't beat that. The food is good but most everything is fried.

Nice location overlooking the marina. The server and hostess were both very accommodating, and the manager came by our table to see how things were for us. I had a burger (not a seafood lover), and it was good. I ate many a burger on this trip (six, not that I was counting), and this was the best one I had - good blackening and everything. Delicious. It was enough to appease the non-seafood lover. The fries were delicious, as was my husband's Rum Runner, which I tried to get him to exchange me for my sangria! My husband got a basket of oysters, which he thought tasted good, but he said he should have gone for the entree/full meal. We're glad we went and tried it out! If you're in Port St. Joe or Cape Blas, you should try it out. It's top-notch.

We have been traveling to Port St Joe for many years and have always enjoyed eating at Dockside. We went down last week and took some friends, talked up how good the food and service was and boy were we disappointed. Not sure what is going on with this place, but I assure you that was our very last trip. The food wasn't the worst part, the service was. They were not even remotely busy. Our waitress didn't even seem to care that we were there. I hope they get it together, they will not survive like this.

Sat at the bar to catch the sunset. Was completely ignored by the four employees behind the bar for the 15 minutes I sat there before walking out. Barstaff only acknowledged the regulars they addressed by name.

Very quaint little place - LOVED the decor, atmosphere and location. Had to wait a LONG time to get in which is probably due to the size of the inside seating area. The There were numerous tables outside that I would imagine weren't being seated at due to the weather (very windy day). The only thing that could have been better was the way they handled the wait - could have offered more information about how long and could have offered drinks, etc. for those waiting. Overall good experience and I would definitely go back!

We enjoyed the view and cool breeze with the excellent service and fine food. We had the blackened flounder with steamed veggies and they were perfect. We were passing through Port St. Joe in late afternoon and hungry for seafood. While exploring the marina we saw the Dockside Cafe. Definitely a nice comfortable place to stop and eat.

Nice location. We sat at the tables by the water and it was pleasant. I ordered the blackened flounder basket and it was very over done and too dry to eat much of. My wife had the oyster Po'boy and that was excellent. Oysters on the half hell looked great although we didn't try them.

It is in a great location so a star for that one. The staff seemed to be running around quickly but it really wasn't that busy. Took a long time to get fried food in my opinion. I had the fried shrimp basket and it was very good. My husband ordered a seafood platter of some sort offering 3 choices of seafood for over $30! I thought that was a bit much for what he ended up getting. The fruity beach drinks we ordered were $7 a pop and I couldn't taste the rum and it came in a styrofoam cup with no frills. I suggest they dress up the drink and put it in a glass, maybe throw in a piece of pineapple or something! Pass out paper pirate hats to the kids! My 5 year old never did get a kid's menu. Have a parrot in a cage in the corner. Decorate the bar to look tiki-ish. Have some old guy singing Buffet tunes. Offer discount boat rides with purchase of meal....you get the picture. I realize it caters to tourists but at least make the customers feel like they are getting something special for the price they are paying there. No other restaurant in town has that view so milk it for what it is worth. Make it feel like a special place to go to. The "dive" atmosphere is already being monopolized by the Indian Pass Raw Bar a few miles away so I suggest they go in another direction to get the dollars.

This looks like a nice place, but the manager is both an idiot AND an a$$hole. All of the tables outside, overlooking the water, were free. He took one look at my wife and me with our motorcycle gear in hand, and suddenly had no available tables outside. We took our business elsewhere. Bikers beware.

They're lucky to even get 1 star from me! We're here on vacation for a week and just wanted to go somewhere the first night that had seafood, because we're in Florida, of course! Well when we first got there, the host was extremely rude. She had no manners. We had an hour wait time even though the restaurant was practically empty. We actually ended up waiting an hour and a half. (I personally didn't want to stay, but was overruled by the rest of the family) she sat us at a table that was no where near the water, it was looking out at the host stand/bathrooms. Isn't this supposed to be "dockside"? The food took another hour to get to our table. Even a side salad didn't make it to our table until the rest of the food did. The staff was just clueless. And our waitress was trying to make excuses that we ordered food that "would normally take long to make on a good night". When we got our food, the place had closed! No one needed their food, only us! Where do I begin with the food... The mahi mahi was rubbery and had no flavor, the scallops weren't even scallops, and the rest of the fried food was burnt. The only remotely good things were the fries. No one could even finish their food, it was awful. We even brought up our issues with the waitress and we didn't get a single apology or anything. Plus, their food is expensive for how bad it is! Each entree is over $20 for burnt fried food. I know there isn't much choice in the area, but I would have honestly rather gone to mcdonalds!

Did not eat. Just stopped in got some drinks. They were good but over priced. $10 per drink! Enjoyed sitting on the water watching the boats. The seagulls are noisy and hang out cause the fishermen clean their fish at the back of the restaurant. Very pet friendly place!

Ate dinner there right before sunset. You seat yourselves and we sat out on the deck. Nice for outside with lights strung across the deck and colorful beach type chairs. Ordered a Margarita which was good....but ordered another one without realizing they were $9.00 each! We got the Conch Fritters and Coconut Shrimp as appetizers. It took a long time to get them, but they were good. We also ordered a dozen raw oysters since it is a RawBar, but it took a long time to get them and the excuse the waitress gave us..."well, we have to shuck each one".....It took a long time to get the second Margarita because "all the glasses are dirty and the bartender took a break". There were only about 3 tables filled in the whole place. We ordered dinner....the Flounder Platter which was huge and the Fried Oyster plate. They were okay, but not impressive. The Cheese Grits are plain yellow grits with a piece of cheese placed on top...would not recommend them. The oysters were over fried with a thick batter. We might go back for the atmosphere and the appetizers, but not for dinner. The bill was $98.00 :(

Mediocre food at a ridiculous price. We've been coming here for 13 years and were always happy. Last night was a total disappointment. I've had better at Red Lobster for half the price. Sadly, we won't come back. I'm not paying $20 for a plate that looks and tastes like Captain D's. It has become significantly more touristy here as of late so maybe they figure no one will notice. But my family noticed. Port St Joe will just be another PCB if you don't keep the quality of the local places.

Very local vibe and it was great! We went for lunch & the fried shrimp were wonderful. My son got a philly cheese & it was great too. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well (think we all had shrimp!) I would've given it a 5 star but everyone in my family loves lemons on their shrimp & in their sweet tea...... they have these things that they call lemons but it's more of a cross between a lemon & an orange (sounds weird I know but tastes like an orange with a sour kick to it) I personally liked them & the tartar sauce that is made with them but the rest of our crew couldn't stomach them! We will go back but will be taking our own lemons for the rest of the family! They have a black cat @ the gift shop that lives there.... my kiddos were in heaven!!

My final impression walking away from here was that this place was less of a restaurant and more of a business. We stopped here on July 4, during off peak hours, but the rain storm caused there to be more limited seating than usual. That led to about a one hour wait. It was definitely not worth that long of a wait. I ordered the grilled shrimp and they'd put this weird spice on it that tasted a lot like sage. I'm not used to my seafood giving me heartburn. Worse than that, I had nausea all night. When the drinks first came out, there was what looked like dirt on the inside of my daughters water cup. When I complained, the server whisked away the cup and returned to say that it wasn't dirt, and that somehow coffee grounds got in their ice supply. The dessert (peanut butter pie) was exceptionally good, and I wished I'd ordered what's wife had, the fried flounder. Which, she had said could have been "hotter." It was cold and rainy, the kids were wet, and they had the mostly open sir restaurant colder with full blast fans. If I find myself in Port Saint Joe again, I'll definitely try a different restaurant.

It's not bad the food was good and I loved the atmosphere but the food took forever and it was really frustrating but if u don't mind that then u will like it

The Dockside Cafe is on my list of must visit whenever I come to Port St. Joe. Definitely a local, no frills joint. Last night I had the scallop dinner, cooked "my way" which was grilled. OMG, they were delicious and you must try the fried corn!!! I know what you are thinking "Fried corn?!?!?!? Gross, that sounds like state fair food." It is half a corn cob that is flash fried, not battered and fried. So delicious it doesn't need any butter or salt. I enjoy the fact that the portions are regular sized and not huge. The wait staff are friendly and helpful. You should note that Dockside is definitely on beach time, they are not in a rush so you shouldn't be either. That being said, the fact that the seafood is extremely fresh and cooked to your liking should be enough to keep anyone happy. Try the smoked tuna dip, a dish that is popular in the area but I think Dockside does it best!

Decided we wanted to have lunch at a new place for us after being in the area for over a week. Had not seen any reviews and just happened upon it as we drove done by the marina. Open air dining that overlooks the marina made for good views. A bit warm but fans inside and a slight breeze made it comfortable. Only about 4 tables in use so we were able to sit where we wanted. Server was pleasant, provided an overview of the specials, and was quick to take our orders, provide drinks, and then food. My wife had fried shrimp and said they were they best she has had so far in this area. I had fried oysters and felt the same. Very lightly breaded and you could tell they were not cooked in old oil or oil that was used for other cooking purposes. We will certainly return.

We have been coming to Port St. Joe for the winter for years. We hadn't tried the Dockside for a couple of years because of disappointing dining a couple of years ago. Since Papa Joe's is closed right now we decided to give it another try. Alas, another disappointment. I'll say upfront our server Felicia was great. We already knew the atmosphere so that was OK. There was a window that was taped over and the tape was partially undone so I was cold throughout the whole meal. There were plenty of heaters going, we just picked the wrong table. The food was very disappointing, especially for the price. I don't like fried food so I had the grilled oysters. They had some kind of spice that just killed the taste of the oysters. Maybe it was lemon pepper, but whatever it was, it was not good. My husband had the grouper fingers. He said they were definitely not as good as Papa Joe's or Triple Tails. He also had french fries that he didn't care for. The total bill with tip was $43 without drinks. Back home we'd have quite a meal for that much. Overall, not a good experience. We won't be going back.

Nice staff, beautiful view, great lunch. If you need to find a place to eat in this part of the world, why not on the water?

After spending the evening shark fishing in the bay, we stopped in at the Dockside Cafe for a small bite to eat. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food! My wife and mother ordered the Greek and house salads, and both were impressed with the variety and quantity of vegetables. I ordered the chicken plate (blackened), which consisted of three nice sized, grilled chicken tenders with a good deal of spice. My boys shared the adult popcorn shrimp plate and had plenty to eat. The setting is quite lovely. Consistent with the name, the restaurant is right on the water. We were fortunate to have a nice cool evening, but I'm not sure how it would be on a warmer night. We did have to fend off mosquitos: one downside to the open air concept. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised. The menu isn't extensive and can be a bit pricey, but we quite enjoyed the experience. I would probably give it 3.5 stars, but am rounding up to 4 because they played some live Yes: always a bonus!

I agree with the last review, I'm not sure why it is rated so low, I would guess issues with service. I had the daily special, fried grouper cheeks with French fries and coleslaw, really enjoyed the food & atmosphere. We started with raw oysters and fried oysters, remoulade sauce was great. A little on the expensive side, but can't complain too much- on vacation & expecting to pay the price for fresh & quality seafood.

"It's not the foods fault that service was do bad." I would like to give a higher rating as the food was good. But the service was horrible. We had to refill our own drinks 5 times, thankfully there was a drink machine not far from our table. After 15 mins of no service, my husband went to request an item only to find our server hiding in the door way with about 4 other employees. After such great food and great service everywhere else we went on our trip, it was such a let down to have this be the last meal we had on the forgotten coast. Skip this place. You can get better food, better service, at comparable price elsewhere. Such a disappointment.

I'm not sure why this place has such low reviews. Our meal - the Admirals platter - was yummy. Crab cake, grilled grouper, grilled shrimp and fried bay scallops. Wife & I smacked over it. And the steamed shrimp were tasty, if not a bit too large. I prefer medium shrimp to the whoppers we had. Aside from that I thought it was tasty. And the view of the sunset over St Joe bay is splendid. A good spot; we'll be back.

I wish I would have read the reviews before I went here. The only reason I'm rating it this high is because of the service. The prices are insane. My wife and kids had three different shrimp plates and all of them tasted the same. My wife had grilled shrimp and it was greasy. Grilled shrimp should not feel and taste like it was fried. I was very disappointed.

  • Jessica S.

I give this place 2 stars because they do have a good atmosphere but that's about all they have going for them. The prices are absolutely insane (at least they were last summer). The food is average but certainly not worth the price they put on it. I probably wouldn't have sworn them off had they not charged $9 for a captain and coke. This is nearly double what other places charge. Just not worth it.

Dockside has lost many customers due to its unacceptable customer service and astronomically inappropriate pricing. My coworkers and I went here to give the place a second chance and were extremely disappointed. The only enjoyable thing was the food itself and the view, which is the only reason I give one star. Well done saving the day, kitchen staff! Management, however... It took our waitress twenty minutes to come to our table after we got there. We ordered peel-your-own shrimp and crab cakes. Our waitress disappeared for another 15 minutes and when she came back, she said they were out of crab cakes. Ten minutes after that, a couple sat down at the table next to us and ordered crab cakes. We were about to warn them that they were out, but then THEIR waiter brought crab cakes and the rest of their order almost immediately. By this point, we had been at Dockside for almost an hour and hadn't seen our waitress since we ordered. Our water glasses had been empty for the majority of that span of time. When we went to refill them ourselves, one of the managers told us our waitress had forgotten to put in our order and by the time she remembered, the kitchen was too busy. She said that the restaurant had just added the section we were seated in and the kitchen wasn't equipped for that capacity. It's midday on a Saturday afternoon and you can't handle orders when the restaurant is half empty? I'd hate to see what happens when you're busy... It took over an hour to bring three OVERPRICED entrees to us; by the time she did, all of us just wanted to leave. We told our waitress this and the general manager came over. She made lots of poor excuses and offered a 10% discount. This doesn't even begin to make up for our experience. What a terrible way to attempt to run a business... we will not be back and you shouldn't risk it. Plenty of other restaurants in the area have food and a view that is just as good; the difference is that they have a competent staff and Dockside does not.

We are on vacation in Port St Joe this week and we taken to Dockside by family members. Dining is open-air and it was HOT. It was about 95 degrees and the entire restaurant smelled of bait. Our server was a woman scantily-clad and covered in tattoos. She rarely came to our table and called everyone "love" when she did. The menu items we ordered were: grouper cheeks (weren't all that great), crabcake sandwich (pretty good) and lemon pepper shrimp (very good but too much pepper.) Prices were rather high at about $20 per person. For that much money, you would think they could afford air conditioning and more clothes for the waitress.

  • Lily E.

Don't waste your money it took almost 2 hours to get our food. Waitresses were sampling mixed drinks. Aggravated and when we finally got our food it was nasty. The best part is it's by a marina . $ 50 dollars later for 2 sandwiches . Don't waste your time or money., a huge letdown ..

Horrible food at outrageous prices.. The restaurant use to be great but has gone under new management, ever since then the food has gotten horrible. We got a salad last time we went and the greens were brown and wilted, when we confronted the staff they said it's all like that and took it back.

    (1)
  • Andy W.

Nothing good to say really...just look at the other reviews. Ate here after a fishing trip, and I think that's how they stay afloat - certainly not the food or service. Steady traffic and a view. And I just don't get the service thing - even with the generally dismal Florida approach to service, this place stood out. With no intention of coming back, my tip reflected their attitude...but they still don't seem to care. Weird.

We have been to dockside several times so we decided to take our family down from Texas. What a disappointment, everyone complained even the kids about the food. $300 later we smiled and walked out. Do not recommend.

Great ambiance, a bit slow on service but was a packed Friday night. Good food while watching the incoming charters with their catch.
